Sodexo Thailand, a local unit of the France-based global leader in food and integrated facilities management services that improve the quality of life, continues its "WasteWatch" project. The initiative campaigns to raise continuous awareness among consumers and clients about the importance of reducing food waste. The goal is to reduce food waste in Thailand by 50% by 2025, in collaboration with Leanpath, a global expert in sustainable food waste management tools. The project utilizes advanced technology to efficiently manage food waste, minimizing environmental impacts and combating global warming. Sodexo also promotes involvement from all sectors, including within the organization, business partners, and customers, to create sustainable change.

"Sodexo prioritizes meticulous production planning and procurement. We carefully assess client dietary needs to prevent overproduction, confirm food orders in advance, and use pre-cut ingredients to minimize waste. Our ingredients are stored properly using FIFO to reduce spoilage. Open communication with clients ensures a shared understanding of our food waste reduction efforts."

"Since the implementation of the WasteWatch machine in 2020, our site has been able to reduce food waste by 19,749 kilograms, which helped cut the carbon footprint by 138 metric tons. This reflects our commitment to promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of our clients’ operations."

Additionally, to raise awareness and foster a sense of responsibility regarding food waste management within organizations, Sodexo Thailand organized the "WasteWatch & WasteWise Champion 2024" campaign. Employees from various sectors, including industrial businesses, healthcare, educational institutions, and offshore organizations concerned with energy and resources, were invited to share ideas and develop creative ways to reduce food waste. As a result of this event, 1,468 kilograms of food waste were reduced across all sites, lowering the carbon footprint by 10 metric tons and saving a total of 4,364 liters of fuel in just 26 days (from September 9 to October 4, 2024).

Finally, Sodexo Thailand has collaborated with the Scholars of Sustenance Foundation (SOS), a nonprofit organization, to maximize the benefits of taking surplus quality food from client sites and distributing it to those in need, thereby creating the greatest benefit for society.
